Wobby #39 - Local Liar
Wobby is a Dutch thematic, Risograph printed, independent magazine, published four times a year.
Wobby #39 – Local Liar is the third issue created with a guest curator, this time in collaboration with the Dutch artist initiative FOULPLAY/SOMETIMESBAKERY, with curator Caz Egelie.
Local Liar (Lokale leugenaar) – a title taken from the name local newspapers have gotten in the vernacular. During a deep dive into a museum archive for a 2020 exhibition on local histories, Caz was introduced to the phenomenon of “Local Liar” for the first time - a local newspaper that spread local news. Fables, neighbourhood myths, news facts, and ads tumble over each other, all trying to convince the reader of their truth. For Wobby #39, the artists were invited to reflect on this theme, resulting in a collection of "local lies" that together transcend the local.
