In early 2023 we invited graphic designer and illustrator Mika Schalks (NL) to work at our studio. During this residency, he continued his graduation work about the queerness of television. The channels he created for that work inspired him to dive deeper into the characters themselves, especially the lady in green.

  • Nina van de Ven about her sketchbooks and work period at the EKWC Oisterwijk
Nina van de Ven talks about her sketch- and scrapbooks and the central role they play in the creation of her work. She explains how the work that emerges from them can be traced back to these books, where everything is collected. Her work primarily consists of drawings, and she has recently started working with ceramics.

  • Caz Egelie about their work and the new Wobby #39 - Local Liar
Caz Egelie is a Dutch artist that creates installations, performances, two-dimensional works and videos. They are also part of the artist collective FOULPLAY/SOMETIMESBAKERY, which co-curated the new Wobby #39 - Local Liar.

Workshops hosted by:

  • Jeroen Funke: Button workshop

  • Janek Koza: cartoon-drawing workshop

Janek Koza (PL/NL) is the author of more than hundred animations and animated video clips, several graphic novels and thousands of political cartoons. In Janek's works, one will also find here the skilful and synthetic presentation of everyday scenes, as well as his ironic, ridiculing style.

  • Studio Misprint: DIY sketch-/notebook workshop

Ellis Tolsma is an illustrator and motion designer from Utrecht (NL). Here, she also runs her own small risograph studio, Studio Misprint, to share to joy of riso-printing with the world.

Launching Wobby #39 - Local Liar

During Wobby Wonderland, we launched Wobby #39, Local Liar, co-curated by FOULPLAY/SOMETIMESBAKERY, with curator and artist Caz Egelie, in the presence of some of the participating artists: Jesse Strik (NL), Ana Margarida Matos (PT), Boris de Leijer (NL), Brieke Drost (NL), Janek Koza (PL/NL), Jesse Strikwerda (NL). To celebrate the launch, Benjamin Pompe performed a piece by Caz Egelie, bringing local tales and stories to life in dynamic, bard-like performance.

The title of Wobby #39, Local Liar (Lokale leugenaar), comes from the name given to some local newspapers. Caz first learned of this term during research for a 2020 exhibition on local histories, where local newspapers shared news, fables, and myths, all competing for truth. For Wobby #39, the artists explored this theme, creating a collection of "local lies" that reach beyond their origins.
