“Of Climbing Vines and Copper Crystals” by Marina Sulima

Created during the Wobby Workout residency, this essayistic risoprinted book by Marina Sulima explores tiny blue copper sulfate crystals, Moldovan rituals, and the soil that connects us all.

During this work period, Marina developed Of Climbing Vines and Copper Crystals, printing fourteen drawings and an essay in three acts. It’s a book about the love for blue, clay houses and their grapevine canopies; about habits, copper sulfate fungicides, and about drinking wine.

Marina Sulima was born in Moldova and lives and works in Groningen, the Netherlands. Her multidisciplinary practice moves between illustration, animation, sculpture, and film. She likes to follow objects; a parcel, a shrimp’s ear, landfill juice, a potassium ore, or a tomato, tracing the stories they tell.
