Wobby #42 ends this year with the theme ‘Lore Galore’, about folklore. This edition is co-curated with Mari Campistron. “Folklore is more than tales passed down through generations; it’s a repository of history, customs, and beliefs”, she explains. “In this issue, we asked the selected artists to reflect on the way these tales and traditions are still relevant and how they adapt to our current society. What do artists want to say about traditions and myths?”
Wobby #42 - Lore Galore, co-curated by Mari Campistron (FR), is an issue about myths, folklore, rites, and personal tales, often rooted in the contributors’ homelands and childhood environments. Many of them were eager to share more about the tales that inspired their work, including some sketches.
The seventh edition of the residency ‘To Riso or Not’ at Make Eindhoven, in the lead-up to Dutch Design Week, has finished a while back. Five young illustrators and artists spent two weeks working in the graphic workshop of Make, exploring techniques such as dry needle, silkscreen printing, risograph printing and monotype. To gain insights into the artists’ experiences, Wobby spoke with some of them a few weeks after the residency.
During her Wobby Workout residency at NS16, Tilburg, multimedia artist Marina Sulima explored the intersection of drawing and risograph printing. The result, the publication Of Climbing Vines and Copper Crystals, translates her observations of Moldova’s landscapes, blue-painted houses, grapevine canopies, and copper sulfate crystals into a tactile printed narrative that connects soil, story, and human habits.
From 18–26 October, Wobby.club and Make Eindhoven present To Riso or Not, an exhibition featuring brand-new works created during their joint printmaking residency. Guided by artist Kim David Bots, five emerging artists – Doris Kolpa, Katharina Busl, Malte Hultgren, Niek Opstals and Yubin Lee – explored printing techniques such as risoprint, drypoint and screen print. Discover the results during Dutch Design Week, and you might even see the artists at work in the exhibition space.
During the Illustrada Festival, Wobby celebrated its 10th anniversary with a special exhibition in a pop-up shop in the city centre of Tilburg, showcasing all 41 published Wobby issues, art prints, and special editions from the archives. Besides this, we hosted free workshops with Dolle Mina's, Qult and Keanu Schipper, where illustration served as a tool for dialogue, expression, and connection.
During Cross Comix on 12 & 13 September in Rotterdam, Wobby celebrates its 10th anniversary with an exhibition of all 41 issues from the past decade — a rare chance to view the complete archive and ten years of bold illustration. Wobby is also present at the Makers Market with publications and risoprints. Young creators can join Meet the Editor for feedback from artistic director Marjolein Schalk. And don’t miss the Drink & Draw session with illustrator Nastia Cistakova as live model!
During the Illustrada Festival, Wobby Club offers a free workshop programme on 6 and 7 September that uses illustration as a means of engaging in dialogue. The results of the workshops are printed on-site using the risograph printer, a fast and creative reproduction technique. In addition, an exhibition celebrating Wobby’s 10th anniversary is on display in the pop-up shop.
In Wobby #41 the theme ‘Get well soon’ plays a central role. The magazine is co-curated by Dutch artists G.C. Heemskerk and Kim David Bots. In this Wobby, thirteen artists offer their interpretations of what recovery means to them and how we can find healing and comfort, both individually and collectively. Read the interview with Marnix van Uum, Leomi Sadler and the co-curators.
